Berlin (Ost) im Herbst 1989: Die Mutter von Alex Kerner liegt nach einem Herzinfarkt im Koma; so entgeht ihr der Fall der Mauer. Im Sommer 1990 erwacht sie. Der Arzt erklärt, jede Aufregung könne für die Patientin tödlich sein. Alex muß ihr das Ende des SED-Staats verheimlichen. Er und seine Freunde gaukeln der kranken Frau das Weiterleben der DDR vor; die Illusion funktioniert lange, bis sich die Wahrheit nicht mehr verheimlichen läßt. Die kluge Komödie war der erfolgreichste deutsche Film des Jahres 2003.

Berlin-Est, en automne 1989. Après un infarctus, la mère d'Alex Kerner est plongée dans le coma. Elle ne prend donc pas conscience de l'effondrement du Mur. Quand elle revient à elle, en été 1990, le médecin met en garde sa famille que tout choc pourrait lui être fatal. Alex doit donc lui cacher la fin de l'Etat socialiste allemand. Avec ses amis, il berce sa mère malade dans la douce illusion que la RDA existe toujours. Une illusion qui tient pendant longtemps, jusqu'au jour où la vérité ne peut plus être étouffée. Cette comédie intelligente était le film allemand le plus couronné de succès en 2003.

Berlin (East) in autumn 1989: Alex Kerner's mother is in a coma after a heart attack and misses the fall of the Berlin Wall. She awakes in summer 1990. Her doctor declares that excitement of any kind could be fatal. Alex must conceal the fall of the SED regime from her. He and his friends pretend to the sick woman that the GDR still exists; the illusion remains perfect until one day the truth can no longer be concealed. The clever comedy was the most successful film of the year in 2003.
