Im August 2020 rief das Goethe Institut wir Videokünstler*innen aus Kanada und Deutschland dazu auf, uns ihre Ideen zu dem Thema „Die Stadt in Zeiten des Virus“ einzureichen: Erobert sich die Natur die Innenstädte zurück? Wie wirken sich soziale Regeln und medizinische Hygienevorgaben auf unsere Körper aus? Wie bewegen wir uns im städtischen Raum? Wie interagieren wir miteinander in Zeiten des social distancing? - Die acht ausgewählten Videos werden nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit auf die Schaufensterleinwände des Goethe-Instituts Montreal am St. Laurent Boulevard bis März 2021 projiziert.

Über den Film
Confinement.lands ist ein Projekt, das während der Confinement-Periode begonnen wurde. Es besteht aus einem Korpus von Werken, von denen eines ein Video-Triptychon ist, das mit Hilfe von Aufnahmen von Fotogrammetrien erstellt wurde, die während der Zeit der Gefangenschaft von einer Web-Plattform (Display land) aus gemacht wurden und Häuser, Orte und Menschen der Gefangenschaft auf der ganzen Welt darstellen. Das Stück soll einen Ausblick auf die Wiederaneignung intimer Räume und das Verschwinden der Rolle des Urbanismus geben und diese vollständig durch eine virtuelle Rolle ersetzen. Die Abschaltung eines großen Teils unserer kapitalistischen Maschine hat in unseren gebauten öffentlichen Räumen, Stadtvierteln, Straßen und Spielplätzen eine leere Bedeutung geschaffen und den Fokus auf die wichtigen Konzepte unserer bereits beschädigten sozialen Struktur gelegt: von der Vorstellung von Zeit und hysterischem Massenkonsum und -produktion bis hin zur letztendlichen Ausweitung unserer sozialökonomischen Ungleichheiten.

En août 2020, l'institut Goethe a invité des artistes du Canada et d'Allemagne à soumettre leurs idées sur le thème «La ville à l'heure du virus» : la nature reprendra-t-elle ses droits dans les centres-villes ? Quelles incidences les règles sociales et les consignes médicales en termes d'hygiène ont-elles sur nos corps ? Comment nous déplaçons-nous dans l'espace urbain? Comment interagissons-nous à l'ère de la distanciation sociale ?
Les huit vidéos choisis par un jury seront projetées à la tombée de la nuit sur grand écran, sur la façade vitrée de notre bâtiment situé boulevard Saint-Laurent jusqu’en mars 2021.

À propos du film
Confinement.lands est un projet lancé pendant la période de confinement. Il consiste en un corpus d'œuvres, dont un triptyque vidéo créé à partir d'enregistrements de photogrammétries prises pendant la période de confinement sur une plateforme web (Display land), qui dépeignent des maisons, des lieux et des personnes confinés partout dans le monde. La pièce vise à proposer un regard sur la réappropriation des espaces intimes et la disparition du rôle de l'urbanisme, en le remplaçant entièrement par un rôle virtuel. La fermeture d'une grande partie de notre machine capitaliste a engendré la perte de sens de nos espaces publics construits, nos quartiers, nos rues et nos terrains de jeux, et a mis l'accent sur les concepts importants de notre structure sociale déjà endommagée : de la notion de temps et de la consommation et production de masse hystérique à l'expansion ultime de nos inégalités socio-économiques.

In August 2020, the Goethe Institut invited video artists from Canada and Germany to submit their ideas on the topic "The City in Times of the Virus": Will nature reconquer the inner cities? How do social rules and medical hygiene rules affect our bodies? How will we move in the urban space? How will we interact in the era of social distancing? - The eight selected videos will be projected after dark onto screens placed in the storefront windows of the Goethe-Institut Montreal on Boulevard St. Laurent until March 2021.

About the film
Confinement.lands is a project started during the confinement period. It consists of a corpus of works, one of which is a video triptych piece created using recordings of photogrammetries taken during the confinement period from a web platform (Display land), that depict confinement houses, places and people all over the world. The piece aims to propose an outlook towards the reappropriation of intimate spaces and the disappearance of the role of urbanism, replacing it fully with a virtual one. The shutdown of a big part of our capitalistic machine has created an empty meaning in our constructed public spaces, neighbourhoods, streets and playgrounds, and has put the focus on the important concepts of our already damaged social structure: from the notion of time and hysterical mass consumption and production to the ultimate expansion of our social-economical inequalities.
