About the German Society of Montreal

The German Society of Montreal is a cultural not-for-profit organization based in Montreal (Canada) founded in 1835. Its goals are to promote the German language, culture and heritage in Montreal. Furthermore, the Society raises funds for its charitable goals.

Over the past years, the Society has continuously expanded its Social Media reach and improved its website as a hub for “all things German” in Montreal.

Volunteer Position

As Social Media and Communications Expert (volunteer-basis) you report to Vice President of the Society and will work in close collaboration with the Society’s Executive Assistant. The expert supports the Society’s with the development and implementation of its communications strategy. 

The internship position requires approximately 2-4 hours per week, during specific event preparations up to 6-8 hours per week. The position is available immediately. At a minimum the volunteer commitment should last 6 months.

The position is not remunerated. As the Society does not have physical offices, we would ask that the successful candidate be able to arrange her/his working space. The Society will provide the expert with an e-mail address and online document workspace for her/his work.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare regular website updates and social media posts to promote the events of the German Society of Montreal, its partners and other events of interest to the German community in Montreal.
  • Lead the preparation the monthly event update newsletter for members and contacts of the Society.
  • Keep up-to-date on events and activities in the German community in Montreal, Quebec and Canada.
  • Regularly update the Society’s website online event calendar. 

Skills and Abilities

Our ideal candidate would have the following skills and abilities:

  • Must speak, read and write German, English and French.
  • Prior work or academic experience in Communications, Marketing or Journalism
  • An excellent communicator and team-player
  • Great deal of independence
  • Ability to work with MailChimp
  • Basic experience of working with HTML and Drupal
