On Saturday, May 14, 2011, the German Society of Montreal held its renewed annual ball. By all accounts, this traditional event has returned to its former place of distinction in the city’s social calendar. Opening remarks were delivered by Dr Gisela Steinle, president of the Society, Canadian Guest of Honor Richard Pound, a Canadian Olympic medallist, and German Ambassador Dr. Georg Witschel.
Some 200 guests attended dinner, followed by the presentation of 12 debutantes and their escorts. The debutantes’ Viennese waltz, choreographed by Anna Akselrod from the Arthur Murray Montreal School, was a highlight of the evening, along with a dance performance by Uriel Urreguin and Marie‐Josée Strazzero. Special thanks for the evening’s success go to Susanne Geyer, the 2011 Ball President and the Ball Committee.
The 2012 German Society Ball has been scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2012. Mark your calendars! Judging by this year’s success, it will be a treat not to be missed!
